All it took was a hidden camera installed by a family member of a nursing home patient to prove abuse was taking place. Now YET ANOTHER nursing home, this time in Cleveland, has announced it fired two nurse aides and suspended a third for five days due to inappropriate care and allegations of patient abuse. Here we go again with another disturbing story of nursing home abuse.
Here's more…one of the fired nurse aides was who was seen spraying the patient with a liquid in the face repeatedly, was recently name nurse aide of the year. The aide is claiming the liquid was perfume.
When a family places a loved one in a nursing home, they should be able to expect that the utmost care and due diligence is being provided. Unfortunately, many cases of abuse are never reported, made public and go without punishment. Nursing home abuse and nursing home neglect is a tragic reality that affects many families across the country. Many residents suffer from mental problems (i.e. dementia), and are therefore unable to convey the abuse that has occurred. The difficulty for residents to report honestly about their treatment means that it remains incredibly important for these facilities to conduct appropriate background checks on all employees.
