I would like to think most of us know it’s important to have a good employment screening program in place before someone is hired. The same can be said for having internal policies and procedures in place regarding employees and confidential information. However, every once in awhile a story surfaces where this wasn’t exactly the case, and OOPS…information breach occurs!
Of course when that happens, there’s a mad dash to try and fix the mess, notify those affected, revisit internal policies and of course, the background screening policy. Any type of information breach negatively impacts an organization, its employees, volunteers and the public. It can spiral into a lack of trust, tarnished reputation and financial and legal consequences. Sometimes all it takes is one dishonest employee to cause all of the damage. If policies, procedures and other controls are lenient or non-existent, then the door left open for an information breach.
This is exactly what happened at Premier Imaging in North Carolina. Click here to read the story.
