EEOC Releases Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2018 - 2022

Recently the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released its Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2018 – 2022. The goal of the EEOC’s Strategic Plan is to outline their objectives over the next four years along with how they plan to meet them.

The Strategic Plan outlines three key objectives:

  1. Combat and prevent employment discrimination through the strategic application of the EEOC’s law enforcement authorities
  2. Prevent employment discrimination and promote inclusive workplaces through education and outreach
  3. Achieve organizational excellence within the agency

This is a reminder to all employers that they should continue efforts to eliminate discriminatory practices. In the 2017 fiscal year the EEOC filed 184 lawsuits and investigated 84,254 charges of workplace discrimination while securing a reported $398 million for victims of discrimination in government and private sectors. There is no reason to believe the EEOC will be any less aggressive in the years ahead.

Employers should periodically review all their practices and documentation to ensure they are abiding by the law and legal precedence.

Maintaining a comprehensive and legally compliant screening process for applicants and employees is one essential tool for all employers to utilize.
