State of Ohio Planning to Improve their Criminal Background Check System

The state of Ohio has identified major issues with their criminal background check system, leading them to set aside $11 million to redesign the entire system. Some of the identified issues include returning clean records for individuals who had a criminal history, and not properly updating the system with new records.

This has lead to some employers hiring people under false information, and other individuals with criminal histories holding sensitive positions such as teachers and foster parents. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation runs more than 1.3 million background checks a year for private and public employers and provides information used by police officers statewide as well as the FBI.

For reasons such as the circumstance with the Ohio criminal background check system, whenever IntelliCorp receives any records from a search, we validate those records by going back to the source. Validating the information we receive is a key component of the services we offer our clients.
