Indiana Ban the Box Order for Criminal History Now In Effect for State Employers

  July 19, 2017

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has signed a “Fair Chance Hiring Process” order to Ban the Box for Executive Branch state employers. It went into effect July 1, 2017. This means that applicants applying for state jobs won’t see the question on the job application that asks about criminal history (“unless a conviction of a particular crime precludes the person from employment in the particular job to which he or she applied,” according to the order). State employers will continue to conduct background checks, but later on in the hiring process.
